About the Gold Award
The L.A. Times Gold Award was established in 2017 by legendary Times food critic Jonathan Gold. Gold wrote at the time: “[The Gold Award] was created with the idea of honoring culinary excellence and expanding the notion of what Southern California cooking might be. The award celebrates intelligence and innovation, brilliance and sensitivity to aesthetics, culture and the environment."
